The arts are disciplines of study in themselves with their own histories and practices, yet they are also increasingly recognized for the ways they promote learning for various children and in various ways.  According to the study: Investigating the Educational Impact and Potential of the Museum of Modern Art's Visual Thinking curriculum: Final Report (source: http://www.artsusa.org/Public_Awareness/artsed_facts/highlights/002.asp), "Being taught to "read" art through a "visual thinking curriculum" helped 9- and 10-year-old students develop their reasoning based on visual evidence.  This increased ability translated into better "reading of evidence in science.
