2nd annual River Cities Dragon Boat Festival

Preparations are well underway for the 2nd Annual River Cities Dragon Boat Festival. This event will be held on Saturday, May 17, at Burns Park’s Victory Lake.

All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Protection Center (CPC). The CPC is a non-profit child advocacy center housed in Little Rock. The CPC works with members of the Pulaski County Multidisciplinary Child Abuse Team (MDT) to serve victims of child abuse and their families. The (MDT) is a comprehensive team which includes child protection personnel (DCFS), law enforcement professionals, child forensic interviewers, medical and mental health professionals, social workers, and victim assistance professionals (www.http://childrensprotectioncenter.org/)

Teams of 20 rowers and one drummer race on the water against each other in 46-foot-long Hong Kong-style dragon boats.

It is a fairly new event in Arkansas. However, dragon boat races are River Cities Dragon Boat Festival held worldwide dating back over 2,300 years ago. It is a unique and adrenaline filled experience that has already become a local tradition.

River Cities Dragon Boat Festival is more than a spectacle. It's an experience rich in culture and comradery. Observers and rowers alike can enjoy, not only the races, but also a variety of local cuisines, live music, and great company!
