Thea announces 2013 Film Scholarship winners

The Thea Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of its 2013 Film Scholarship Competition, sponsored in part by the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN).  Thea’s Film Scholarships are offered in conjunction with AETN’s Student Selects, an annual event that grants young filmmakers the opportunity to submit their film and video handiwork for possible broadcast on AETN, streamed on www.aetn.org and screened at the Little Rock Film Festival (LRFF).

For the fourth year, Thea has offered four $2,500 scholarships to graduating seniors in the following categories:  screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing.  This year’s four winners were announced and honored during the Student Selects portion of the LRFF on Thursday, May 16.    
 
The winners of Thea’s 2013 Film Scholarship Competition are as follows:

Cinematography - $2,500        Zak Heald                 Gravette High School
Directing - $2,500                    Anna Thompson       Har-Ber High School, Springdale    
Editing - $2,500                       Robert Crisp             Har-Ber High School, Springdale
Screenwriting - $2,500            Joseph Largent         Fayetteville High School

Thea Scholarships
Founded in 2002, Thea’s Scholarship Program is the longest running program the Foundation offers.  Originally awarded in the Visual Arts category to high school seniors graduating from North Little Rock High School, Thea Kay Leopoulos’s alma mater, Thea Scholarships have grown in quantity as well as coverage.  Today, Thea annually awards $70,000 across five scholarship categories--Creative Writing, Film, Performing Arts, Poetry Slam and Visual Arts--to twenty-eight graduating seniors from all corners of the state.  In eleven years, Thea has distributed $2.5 million in scholarships to 225 students gifted in the arts.
