Man charged with firearm on school property in Maumelle

MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) – A man in Maumelle is facing charges after being caught with a gun near an elementary school campus on Monday.

According to Jim Hansard with Maumelle police, the mother of a child who attends Pine Forest Elementary School reported that the father had been at the school, attempting to see the child.

Days earlier, Hansard said police had received reports that the man had harassed family members and had made threats about shooting, killing, and burning houses down.

Hansard said the school reported that he had just left, stating that he would return during lunch to eat with his child. Police then reportedly canvassed the area and found the man riding a bicycle on Edgewood Drive near City Hall, about .25 mile from the school.

Hansard said Kevin Hamilton, 33, was placed into custody for other warrants out for his arrest. A pat down search of his person reportedly revealed a .40 caliber pistol, fully loaded, in his waistband.

In addition to active warrants for failure to pay fines on domestic battery, failure to pay fines on public intoxication, and parole violation, Hamilton was also charged with felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm on school property.
