Flower Workshop with Tanarah Haynie, registration now open

The Thea Foundation announces its fourth annual Flower Workshop with renowned floral designer Tanarah Haynie of Tanarah Luxe Floral in Little Rock.  Tanarah, a floral designer with international education, will share her knowledge of floral artistry with the attendees.   

Tanarah reached AIFD (American Institute of Floral Designers) status several years ago, and has studied with many well-known American and European designers alike.  Although internationally recognized, Tanarah prefers to stay at home in Arkansas.  Originally from Fort Smith, Ark., she and her husband chose the Little Rock area over ten years ago to grow their special event floral company.  Together with her team, she has become one of the top florists in the central Arkansas region.  To learn more about Tanarah, visit www.designsbytanarah.com.

ASMSA to hold commencement ceremony May 25

HOT SPRINGS — The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts will hold its commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in Summit Arena at the Hot Springs Convention Center. There are 97 students in the Class of 2013.

Three seniors will speak during the ceremony. Student Government Association President Sorena Lo of Paris will give the senior address. Mehr Shah of Little Rock will provide the welcome, and Dimple Shah of Paragould will give the senior speech. Lo is the daughter of Vanessa and Hue Lo. Mehr Shah is the daughter of Sitara and M.B. Shah. Dimple Shah is the daughter of Nisha and Himansu Shah.

The Thea Center will host Park Central Little Rock’s Global Peace and Reconciliation (GLO-PAR) Poster Exhibition, opening May 20 and running through May 31.  The GLO-PAR Project is a collaborative effort between Park Central Little Rock, the City of Little Rock and the Little Rock School District.  Students in all grades were encouraged to submit posters reflective of the theme, “Ripple One Minute of Silence into One Full Day of Non-Violence,” and illustrating peace and reconciliation.

Keep Arkansas Beautiful Poster Competition Winners at Thea

Keep Arkansas Beautiful (KAB)’s Poster Competition is held in conjunction with the Great American Cleanup to involve statewide elementary school students in the Cleanup effort, and to educate the public about the importance of a clean and beautiful community to economic development, civic pride and environmental quality of life.  The competition’s winners, including students in grades K - 5, will be exhibited in Thea’s gallery from May 13 to 17.  More information at www.keeparkansasbeautiful.com.

Thea will host KAB’s Poster Competition Winners as well as Mary Ann Stafford’s ongoing The Argenta Project during this upcoming Argenta ArtWalk on Friday, May 17, 5 to 8pm.  Visitors can peruse the art while enjoying yummy hors d’oeuvres and drinks from the open wine and cheese bar.

Greek festival tempts taste buds to support local charities

LITTLE ROCK (May 6, 2013) – This year’s International Greek Food Festival will continue the tradition of serving food, friends and the community by introducing a new menu option, Indian food, and adding new benefiting nonprofits, Arkansas Children’s Hospital and Harmony Health Clinic

 

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church will host this year’s festival Friday and Saturday, May 17 and May 18, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, May 19, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

The festival features a scrumptious medley of Greek and Mediterranean menu favorites, including baklava, gyros, calamari, pastitso, sourota and much more. The mouthwatering cuisine can be enjoyed at the festival, ordered online to go at www.greekfoodfest.com or picked up at the drive thru. This allows even those with demanding schedules an opportunity to taste the Mediterranean.

Stop by the Thea Center and visit an exhibition of twenty-five pen and ink drawings of Argenta-specific structures by Little Rock artist Mary Ann Stafford.  Stafford’s meticulous renderings bring to life the colorful heritage of the Argenta Arts District with fidelity to the structures‘ original façades and to the historic neighborhood’s eclectic spirit.    

The Argenta Project will be on display in the Thea Center from May 1 to 17.  A closing reception will take place during the Argenta ArtWalk on Friday, May 17, 5 to 8pm.  Free and open to the public.  Originals ($575) and giclée prints ($135) are for sale through the artist at www.staffordart.com.
