Central Arkansas Buddy Walk® set for Saturday

MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Central Arkansas Buddy Talk will hold its 4th Annual Central Arkansas Buddy Walk® Saturday, October 17 at Lake Willastein Park.  

The Central Arkansas Buddy Walk® is a community walk to celebrate Down syndrome awareness and promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. 

There will be activities for all ages. Participants will enjoy a half-mile walk route through the scenic Lake Willastein Park along with a live disk jockey, face painting, games, balloon figures, bubbles and costume characters. Following the walk, a meal will also be provided to participants.

Registration will be open at 1 p.m. and the event will start at 2 p.m.

This year, Central Arkansas Buddy Talk hopes to raise $20,000 through the Central Arkansas Buddy Walk®. Funds raised will be used to support individuals with Down syndrome and their families in central Arkansas as well as national advocacy programs.

Attorney General's Medicaid fraud control unit arrests Pulaski County woman

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge announced the arrest of a Pulaski County woman by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.

Cheri Bates-West, 38, of Maumelle was arrested on three felony controlled substance violations after investigators determined she administered substitute narcotics and drugs to residents of Lakewood Nursing and Rehab in North Little Rock and retained the prescribed medications for her own use. Bates-West was booked into the Pulaski County Jail and is being held on a $15,000 bond.

Bates-West was also charged with two additional outstanding warrants – a felony for failure to appear in Logan County and fraud for insufficient funds from the Sherwood Police Department. 

Medicaid fraud occurs when Medicaid providers use the Medicaid program to obtain money or products to which they are not entitled.

Little Rock Fire Department to offer free CPR class

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (July 31, 2015) – The Little Rock Fire Department is introducing an initiative to teach residents basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for use in emergency situations

The “Put Me in Chief” program will hold a free CPR class from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Little Rock Fire Training Facility at 7000 Murray St. The class includes a demonstration on how to provide primary emergency response in the event of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

Data provided by the American Heart Association show that roughly 70 percent of Americans feel helpless during a cardiac emergency because they either don’t know how to administer CPR or their training has lapsed. Additionally, some people are afraid they will hurt the individual in distress if they try to administer CPR.

This free, family-friendly event takes place Saturday, May 30 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

There will be live entertainment by Runaway Planet, The Beckham Brothers Band, FreeVerse, ReCreation Studios & Cirque Arts and Paul Prater. The Waffle Wagon and Agrilla the Bun food trucks will be on hand for all your hunger needs. Diamond Bear Brewing Company and Moody Brews will be there to quench your thirst. There will also be local arts/crafts vendors for a unique shopping experience.

This is a fundraiser for the third annual Legends of Arkansas coming up on Saturday, September 19. Argenta events are possible because of sponsors 107 Liquor, Argenta Arts District, Argenta Downtown Council, Moody Brews, Diamond Bear and Rock Town Distillery.
