High school teacher suspended following hit-and-run accident

PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) – A teacher at Maumelle High School has been suspended.

According to Maumelle police, a teacher at the school is suspected in a high school parking lot hit-and-run; they were apparently driving while impaired.

The Pulaski County Special School District spokesperson Deb Roush has released the following statement regarding the reason behind the suspension:

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) – According to deputies in Faulkner County, three were arrested after a narcotics search on Locust St. in Conway.

David Woodall, 50, was reportedly arrested and charged with:

-2 counts of Felony C Delivery

-Possession of Meth Felony C

Maumelle High School welcomes Canadian R&B band

Maumelle High School welcomes Canadian R&B band

MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The Victoria High School R&B Band from Canada is visiting Maumelle High School Friday, April 24.

This band made up of British Columbia Canadian high school students is expected to arrive in Maumelle between 9:30 and 10 a.m. The band is expected to hold two performances for the Maumelle students, which will occur in the cafeteria. 

The R&B band is working with Arkansas native Al Bell. Bell made an appearance at the Maumelle High School's banquet in 2014. Since then, the school has honored him by creating an 'Al Bell Award of Excellence', which is annually presented to a Maumelle High School band student.

Bell is known for being co-owner of Staxx Records in Memphis, Tenn., as well as being president of Motown Records.

UCA professor promotes new book with 12-foot-long alligator gar

CONWAY, Ark. (UCA) - Fish-writer and University of Central Arkansas writing professor Mark Spitzer is driving around Arkansas with a 12-foot-long alligator gar on top of his car to promote his new book, Return of the Gar, just out from the University of North Texas Press.

The last stop on his statewide tour will be at Hastings Books and Music in Conway on Saturday, May 9, from 1-3 p.m. Return of the Gar continues the conservationist crusade Spitzer began 13 years ago to de-stigmatize this monstrous-looking prehistoric fish. Alligator gar, the largest member of the gar family, can grow 11 feet long and weigh more than 300 pounds ― and they’re right here in Arkansas.

Maumelle resident celebrates 100th birthday

MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - A woman born in Israel and now resides in Maumelle, Ark. will be celebrating her 100th birthday on Wednesday, April 15. 

Selma Salem Olaimey was born in Palestine, Israel. She became a citizen of the United States of America in 1999. 

Olaimey currently resides at The Lakes at Maumelle in Maumelle, Ark. where she plays bingo two times a week according to the HR/Payroll Manager Amanda Chatman. 

Olaimey and her family will be celebrating her turning 100 on April 15 at The Lakes at Maumelle.
