PCSSD Communications Department earns national recognition

The Pulaski County Special School District’s Office of Communications received two awards in the annual National School Communications competition from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).

The district won an award of merit recognizing it for distinguished achievement in marketing the district through a consistent brand. An honorable mention was awarded for the district’s social media efforts.

There were more than 700 entries from districts throughout the country in multiple categories pertaining to school district communications.

Pulaski Tech opens registration for Summer II term

Pulaski Technical College is registering students for the Summer II term through June 28.

Students can register 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. on June 28, in the Campus Center on Pulaski Tech’s main campus in North Little Rock, 3000 West Scenic Drive.

Students should complete an online application to the college and submit all required admission documents before registering. For those registering before June 20, payment is due by 4 p.m. June 20. For those registering on or after June 20, payment is due no later than close of registration on June 28.   

The college welcomes students from four-year colleges and universities who wish to take classes in order to transfer Pulaski Tech credits to other institutions. The Arkansas Course Transfer System website offers a convenient way to ensure that credits will transfer successfully.

LRFW launches youth fashion design competition

LRFW launches youth fashion design competition

Little Rock Fashion Week is accepting applications from students entering grades 1st through 12th for its Youth Fashion Sketch Design Competition. Applications can be downloaded at LittleRockFashionWeek.com.

The purpose of the competition is to ignite, motivate and encourage young people who are interested in the fashion industry. Students are asked to create their own clothing line by sketching out their designs and coming up with a name.

The finalists from different grade categories (1st-5th grades; 6th-8th grades; and 9th-12th grades) will be invited to attend Little Rock Fashion Week 2012.

WHY: Each graduating senior that has received a scholarship are the honorees at this reception. Each one will be acknowledged at this reception by the presentation of a medallion with a ribbon. They will wear the medallion around their neck during their high school graduation ceremony to signify their achievement.

"PCSSD can verify that a teacher from Maumelle Middle school has been suspended with pay, per District policy, related to conduct unbecoming a professional teacher. The district is conducting an investigation of the allegation. Safety in our schools is our outmost priority, and we take every allegation seriously."

Open Meetings to Include Board Rezoning Options And Public Input

The Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD) has announced the dates of three public meetings scheduled per legislation to rezone the school district’s population as measured by the most recent (2010) United States Census, and to take any actions required by law regarding board zoning, according to Deborah Roush, the district’s executive director of communications. No later than June 8, 2012, every school district must submit a report to the Arkansas Department of Education documenting its compliance with this requirement, she said.

The open forum meetings will be Monday, May 21, 2012, at 6 p.m., at PCSSD’s Central Office, 925 East Dixon Road, in Little Rock; on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at 6 p.m., at Maumelle High School, 100 Victory Lane, in Maumelle; and on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 6 p.m., at Jacksonville High School, 2400 Linda Lane, in Jacksonville.

PCSSD sets summer school schedule

The Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD) will hold two summer school sessions for high school and middle school students, according to Deborah Roush, the district’s spokesperson.

Summer school, which enables students who have failed a course to regain credit, will begin May 31, 2012. Middle school classes will include sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade math and English and English I, English II, English III, English IV, algebra I and geometry at the high school level, she said.

Registration for both sessions began May 1 and will continue until May 18 for the first session and until June 8 for the second session.  The cost is $80 per session for resident students (attending a PCSSD school) and $300 per session for non-resident students (not attending a PCSSD school).
