Join the Aug. 1 Walk for Children and Families

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (MFH) - Online Registration is now available for the 8th Annual Walk for Children and Families. This family-friendly event benefiting Methodist Family Health is coming up Friday, Aug. 1, at the Big Dam Bridge, 4000 Cooks Landing Road, North Little Rock. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m., with the Walk at 6:30 p.m. Individuals, groups and all ages are welcome.

The fun will include live music by the Gable Bradley Band, free Frosty Treats ice cream, free pizza, games and walking for a great cause. All participants will receive a free T-shirt. Parking will be at the Crystal Hill Elementary School, with a free shuttle to the Big Dam Bridge.

Little Rock, AR – The registration deadline for Camp iRock has been extended to July 11. The Arkansas Minority Health Commission (AMHC) will host the fourth annual all-girl fitness and nutrition camp, Sunday, August 10 through Saturday, August 16. The experience will take place at Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center, 1720 Ferncliff Road in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Designed exclusively for girls in sixth, seventh and eighth grades, Camp iRock offers fun educational activities, workshops and exercises aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, physical activity and self-confidence. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Tonight's My Town Hero is a legendary Little Rock basketball coach. He's accomplished some remarkable things on the court over the years, but it's what the Arkansas Sports Hall of Famer is doing off the court that makes him so worthy of being called a Town Hero.

This man needs no introduction. Just take a look at the plaques along his wall, and you'll know right away you're in the presence of greatness. Charles Ripley, Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Arkansas Baptist College, wears many hats, but the most significant pertains to meeting the needs of his young athletes.

Enjoy the great outdoors on Arkansas Trails Day

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – The 22nd anniversary of National Trails Day, America's largest trail celebration, is slated for June 7. Events throughout the U.S. will join this nationwide observation of America's wealth of trail types and experiences while encouraging the public to enjoy a trail. According to State Trails Coordinator Mike Sprague, "The kick off to Arkansas's celebrations will begin a week earlier on Saturday, May 31, with trail events of all kinds in Little Rock and North Little Rock. A schedule of the events slated for May 31 in the metro area is posted on the Arkansas Trails Council website at: http://www.arkansastrailscouncil.com/.

New splash pad added to Riverfront Park

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – Just in time for warmer weather, a hot summer spot for families is opening in Little Rock. Today, kids enjoyed the new splash pad added to the Riverfront Park children's play area.

It's located behind the Marriot Hotel along the Arkansas River and is open to the public. Mayor Mark Stodola said the splash pad will add to downtown Little Rock's appeal.

"I continue to have people who come here and visit who have a chance to walk through this park and they totally blown away and amazed by not only the beauty of the park but all of the amenities," he said.

Two Little Rock businessmen, Wayne Woods and John Burkhalter, are funding the splash pad.
